BIMCO imposes travel and meeting restrictions due to Coronavirus

BIMCO is an international association organising training courses, seminars, subcommittee meetings, working groups, etc. worldwide. As a consequence of the current spread of Coronavirus, BIMCO has decided that no BIMCO staff can travel to the Far East until further notice.

BIMCO issues update on Persian Gulf tensions and sanctions clauses

After the killing of General Qassem Soleimani by a US drone in early January 2020, and the following retaliation by Iran, BIMCO is publishing its view of the escalated tension in the Persian Gulf, as well as advice regarding the new sanctions clauses, and encourages owners, operators and charterers to follow the operational and contractual guidance set out in this article.

BIMCO expands ice information service

As part of its offering to members, BIMCO has updated and expanded its online database on ice information. Foremost, the web-resource reflects the recently amended Polar Code and the subsequently revised national rules, which regulates navigation in arctic waters. 

BIMCO appoints David Loosley as Secretary General & CEO

BIMCO is pleased to announce that following a thorough executive search, it has appointed David Loosley as its new Secretary General & CEO with effect from June 2020. Mr Loosley joins from the Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST), the international membership body for all marine professionals, which he has successfully led for the last eight years.

BIMCO publishes interpretation of discord between fuel oil samples

As 1 January 2020 approaches and the sulphur regulation from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) comes into force, BIMCO is experiencing an increase in questions related to the discord between the verification produces for statutory fuel oil samples and commercial fuel oil samples.

Is blending fuel on board allowed to achieve compliance?

The fuel oil carriage ban from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that will come into force on 1 March 2020 has raised questions regarding the possibility of blending fuel on board ships to achieve compliance. The questions have prompted BIMCO to offer its view to members on the regulatory aspects of whether on board blending can be considered compliant.

Final notice on IDEA closure

IDEA will be shut down at midnight between 31 December 2019 and 1 January 2020 CET.  It is impossible to execute a contract using IDEA after that time.
