15+15 webinar: Getting what you pay for – a novel concept in bunkering?

27 March 2024

Early in 2024 Adrian Tolson published a White Paper arguing for the global adoption of calibrated mass flow meters (MFMs) in the bunkering industry. He argued that this progress will bring much-needed transparency to bunkering by generating accurate, real-time data for all stakeholders along the marine fuel supply chain. Describing the problems for the industry caused by inaccurate quantity measurement he sets out a number of remedial actions. The paper recognizes the success of Singapore’s MFM based bunker licensing system and proposes this as a template for regulators in other regions across the world. It calls on all supply chain participants to actively support MFM-based deliveries, promote transparency and encourage digitalization in the long-term interests of the bunker industry and to help further the decarbonization goals of the shipping industry. This 15+15 will explore these ideas and assess if there is a chance for real progress.

15+15 webinar: Thou Shall Not Pass! Routing Through the Red Sea in 2024

15 March 2024

The last three months have seen a substantial volume of queries in relation to the pros and cons of transiting via the Gulf of Aden versus the Cape. In this episode of 15+15, Alex Kemp and Simon Maxwell , experts in war risks from HFW will briefly discuss the latest in the Red Sea, the level of the threat posed and the factors to be taken into account when deciding when to proceed and when to re-route. The main take-aways from the presentation will be: The decision of whether to re-route requires a nuanced review of the interplay between the contractual matrix and the current threat level (which is informed by a multitude of sources). A pragmatic and commercial approach (focused upon engaging with all parties to the maritime adventure) often provides the greatest chance of reaching the right conclusion, hopefully without the threat of legal-action emerging after. HFW have unparalleled experience in advising clients on recent war risks around the world including Somali Piracy, West African Piracy, the war in Ukraine, the war in Gaza, the attacks around Saudi and the more recent activities of the Houthis in the Red Sea.

15+15 webinar: Cyber security: Are the threats mounting?

06 March 2024

It is widely reported that the cyber threat landscape is worsening for maritime organisations. But how is the threat landscape really developing and what are the most likely scenarios which the industry should be aware of? Norwegian Maritime Cyber Resilience Centre - NORMA Cyber has been operational for three years and has more than 100 member organisations and 2,500 vessels among them. One of the things they do is to monitor the threat landscape on a day-to-day basis for their members and handle cyber-related incidents. In this presentation, Managing Director Lars Benjamin Vold will provide an overview of NORMA Cyber's assessment of the maritime cyber threat landscape and how this is likely to develop in the near future. Overview of the main threat actors attacking maritime organisation in the cyber domain Examples of attacks observed towards maritime entities How NORMA Cyber assess this to develop with rabid increase in connectivity

15+15 webinar: Unveiling the Future: How Transparency Shapes Ship Recycling for a Greener Steel Sector

27 March 2024

Did you know that over 70% of end-of-life vessels find their way to South Asia for recycling? Beyond just being a source of scrap steel for the industry, this practice holds great potential for reducing carbon intensity and promoting sustainability. Discover how initiatives like the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI) are shaping the future of this industry with their innovative "Yard Assessment Framework" and uncovering the transformative power of sustainable ship recycling towards a greener, more responsible future. Regulatory landscape evolution: assessing ship recyclers performances to promote responsible practices through an independent tool. Ship recycling and green steel: a blueprint for sourcing sustainable steel scrap from ship recycling. The role of finance stakeholders in ship recycling. Join this 15+15 where Christoph Wolff , CEO of Smart Freight Centre and leading the strategic direction of the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative will dive into the future of ship recycling and answer your questions in the LIVE Q&A.

15+15 webinar: Seafarers’ mental health in modern times

27 March 2023

Working always in the same spaces, isolated from the rest of the world, being in contact with the same people, exposed to noise and smell, sleep deprivation, fatigue and constantly changing environment can cause a psychological deterioration that may lead to chronic disorders and even severe pathologies. When well taken care, the mental well-being of the crew members on-board translates into better team work and overall increase in the efficacy and productivity of the crew members on -board

Recorded 15+15 webinar: Vessel emissions from a lifecycle perspective

16 November 2022

Shipowners are facing demands from multiple sides to enhance the green profile of vessels. Counting direct emissions (from fuel) has limitations and might not provide the complete picture of the emissions associated with operating a vessel. In this session, Rasmus Elsborg-Jensen is discussing the future need for voluntary emission reporting and what challenges this can bring when using the current framework.

Recorded 15+15 webinar: How to ensure the EEXI compliance

30 November 2022

Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) regulations have entered into force as of 01 November 2022. Applicable vessels will need to demonstrate that its attained EEXI meets its required EEXI on an annual basis. The attained EEXI indicates the ship’s energy efficiency compared to the baseline determined by IMO. In the outset, the EEXI regulation is intended to make existing ships generally meet the design energy efficiency index of new ships (EEDI phase 2) by means of technical modifications.

Recorded 15+15 webinar: Is coal shipping on the rise?

21 December 2022

Coal demand resurged in 2022, almost surpassing its all-time peak in 2013, which has led many to question whether coal truly is dying. As one of the three major bulks, accounting for around a quarter of bulker demand, future coal demand is one of the key factors guiding the dry bulk sector in the coming decades, and a main driver of investment decisions.
