Launched in June 2010, the BIMCO Shipping-KPI is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Since its launch, the number of ships in the system has increased, and the month of May reached another milestone. In May, the total number of ships used for benchmarking reached 7.000, adding to the quality of the data pool which increases as more ships’ data is applied.
The basis of the Shipping-KPI has so far been the Performance Indicators (PI). Since its launch, the Shipping-KPI has been focused on operational performance. Through genuine discussions in the KPI expert group, the supporting definitions have been tuned to match the users’ needs.
With the expected introduction of financial reporting later this year, 2020 will see another milestone reached. Financial reporting will allow for benchmarking on financial PI’s as well, and 2021 will expectedly open the full potential of operational and financial benchmarking in the same system. This will give users a 360-degree overview of the company performance.

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
