Nigeria Port Integrity Survey

Overview

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has launched an anonymous Port Integrity Survey to assess the impact of MACN’s efforts in Nigeria and to better understand the evolving situation in Nigerian ports and terminals.

BIMCO supports MACN’s endeavours to facilitate shipping and port operations and, more generally, fight corruption in Nigeria and elsewhere. Members are therefore encouraged to forward the questionnaire to relevant ships and ask that they respond to it before 15 March 2021, as this input will be very valuable to MACN’s work.

Since 2012, MACN and the Convention on Business Integrity (CBI), have been part of several initiatives to build integrity and improve the operating environment in Nigerian Ports and Terminals. Government agencies at ports and terminals in Nigeria have developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to guide their personnel, stakeholders and users of their services in order to reduce the risk of corruption and improve ship and cargo clearance efficiency. This survey seeks to elicit feedback from private sector users of Nigerian ports and terminals on how well these objectives are being achieved.

The link to the Impact Survey can be found here.

We have been informed by MACN that all data will be collected anonymously and handled confidentially by MACN. The results of the survey will be aggregated and shared with project stakeholders, MACN members, and will be used to develop the next steps MACN should take to further improve the operating environment in Nigeria at port and terminal level.

Members may contact the MACN Secretariat directly in case they have questions to the survey or MACN’s Collective Action in Nigeria.

VPS Bunker Alerts

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.

The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
