Description
Metallurgical refuse. Is also the largest proportion of solid wastes generated by the iron and steel industry. The refuse or slag, formed by combination of flux, gangue of ore and ash of fuel, and mostly high in silicates separates in the melting smelting process and floats on the surface of molten metal. Also used often as the medium to separate impurities from metal. Used in construction of highways, railroad ballast, cement and concrete aggregate etc. Also used as raw material for cinder block, Portland cement and mineral wool.
