Shipping industry urges Governments to take forward USD 5 billion proposal to accelerate the decarbonisation of maritime transport

Copenhagen/London/Washington, November 13, 2020 – As governments come together at the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to consider important next steps to decarbonise maritime transport, the global shipping industry urgently calls on them to take forward its proposal for an industry-financed, USD 5 billion research and development programme, to catalyse the transformation of the industry from dependence on fossil fuels to operating with zero-carbon energy sources.

IMEC and ITF opens big quarantine and testing facility in Manila

The International Maritime Employer’s Council (IMEC) and the International Transport Worker’s Federation (ITF) have set up quarantine and testing facilities in Manila to facilitate crew changes and address concerns about quarantine quality and fake COVID-19 tests.   

Important elements still missing after IMO working group meeting on GHG reductions

The Intersessional Working Group on reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) from shipping had its first online meeting this week to advance the work on short term measures in support of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) initial strategy on reduction of GHG from ships.  

Make sure your contract is genuine with new Authenticity Clause

BIMCO has published a Contract Authenticity Clause to encourage parties issuing contracts based on a BIMCO form to agree to use one obtained from an authorised source such as SmartCon.

BIMCO nominates President Designate to succeed Sabrina Chao in 2021

Under the presidency of Mrs Sadan Kaptanoglu, the BIMCO Board of Directors has approved the nomination of Mr Nikolaus H. Schües, CEO of Reederei F. Laeisz (Germany) to stand for election as the next President Designate of BIMCO in 2021, succeeding Mrs Sabrina Chao, Chairman of Wah Kwong Shipping Holdings Limited (Hong Kong). 

New BIMCO Shipping KPI version offers improved benchmarking concept

BIMCO is launching Version 4 of its Shipping KPI system to provide users with improved and more accurate ways of benchmarking their ships and fleets. The new version of the Shipping KPI will feature fundamental changes to the processing of information and include an improved user interface.

New BIMCO ship sale and purchase standard heading for industry consultation

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has positively received a new standard Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the sale and purchase of ships, thereby opening the doors to wide industry consultation before finalising and publishing the new standard next year.
