Help set the future direction for the BIMCO ESG Network: Complete our quick survey

Published: 25 July 2023

There are now more than 55 members in the BIMCO Environmental Social and Governance Network. More are joining as members seek to understand the role ESG will play in their future business.  In its initial meetings, the group has identified the need to investigate commonalities in ESG strategies and how you manage the things you can’t (or that might be hard to) measure. In order to get a broader picture of how our members are approaching ESG, we have developed a short survey to gather information.

The BIMCO ESG network has highlighted an ever-growing need to provide information about ESG. Businesses are seeing a multitude of questionnaires from different companies with hundreds of questions on topics such as child labour and modern slavery. There are existing guidance and standards useful for any ESG exercise such as ISO standards, the GHG protocol and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) impact programme as well as the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) standards. A shipping-specific standard developed by Intertanko also exists.

Developments in the EU will change the way in which ESG elements are reported in Europe and by European companies. This, driven by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) Directive will also drive forward the need to collect and standardise data.  Under the CSRD, sector-specific reporting standards could be agreed as early as June 2024 with reporting from companies included under the directive starting as early as January 2026.

In order to frame the discussion topics for the ESG network and to support future work by BIMCO in this area, we are seeking, through our summer internship programme, to gather some information on how our members are doing. We have created a short survey to gather this information in an easily digestible format and would be grateful to any members willing to share their experiences with us.

To complete the survey (which should take no longer than four to five minutes) go to BIMCO ESG Reporting Survey.

We are always happy to welcome new members to our ESG network. For more information please visit BIMCO to launch ESG network for members.
