Newbuilding contracts should require use of Shipdex

BIMCO and MAN Energy Solutions hosted a conference for software suppliers delivering Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to expand the use of Shipdex. Shipdex is the standard protocol for exchanging technical data - such as manuals – electronically between supplier and ships directly, cutting the need for huge stacks of - often outdated - paper manuals.

BIMCO publishes COVID-19 guidelines for office workspaces

The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak started as a locally circulating infection associated with Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market but has since developed into the current pandemic. To assist the shoreside of the maritime industry in taking appropriate protective measures at office workplaces, BIMCO is issuing guidelines intended to help shipping companies avoid spreading of the disease at offices and office buildings.

Nicholas Kazaz

Nicholas Kazaz is an Associate at HFW, where he focuses on international commercial dispute resolution, specialising in offshore oil & gas, energy, and marine. Nicholas handles disputes arising from installation contracts, charter parties, bills of lading, shipbuilding, rig disputes, towage, collisions, salvage, general average, groundings, total loss, and limitation. Among others, he acts for and advises shipowners, charterers, energy companies, contractors, shipyards, ship managers, and P&I Clubs. Nicholas has particular experience of drafting and negotiating a range of contracts in the shipping and offshore sectors, including BIMCO SUPPLYTIME, TOWCON and BARGEHIRE and other standard contracts, as well as bespoke OSV vessel charter parties. Since joining HFW, Nicholas has undertaken secondments in Australia (to HFW's Perth Office with a focus on the Offshore / Oil & Gas / Commodities sectors), to the in-house legal team of a major international tanker owner, to two International Group P&I Clubs / Insurers, and a leading insurance broker. Nicholas is qualified in England and Wales.

Matt Hannaford

Matt is a partner of Hannaford Turner, having previously worked at Curtis Davis Garrard (2014-2016), Clyde & Co (2005-2014) and Clifford Chance (1993-2005). Matt’s practice focuses on commercial shipping law with particular expertise in ship finance and ship sale and purchase, including newbuilding projects. He is the co-author of Goldrein’s “Ship Sale and Purchase”, the leading legal textbook on the sale and purchase of secondhand tonnage. He was a member of the BIMCO documentary sub-committee for the preparation of Norwegian Saleform 2012. His clients include shipowners and operators, major international banks, ship builders, commodity traders and private equity funds. In addition to ship finance work, he regularly advises international maritime clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint-ventures and pooling arrangements. In recent years Matt has been heavily involved in debt finance restructurings, fleet enforcements and advising on insolvency issues. Matt is also recognised for his expertise in the superyacht market and regularly represents owners, builders and international financial institutions in this unique market sector.
