At 00:01 UTC on 1 January 2023, the Indian Ocean High Risk Area (HRA) for piracy will be removed. The removal of the HRA reflects a significantly improved piracy situation in the region, but voyage preparation, threat and risk assessment are essential when following Best Management Practice 5 (BMP5).

Shipping industry unites to propose ambitious CO2 reduction objectives to global regulator

Four major international trade associations – BIMCO, INTERCARGO, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and INTERTANKO – have made a joint proposal to the IMO concerning ambitious CO2 reductions by the international shipping sector, which is responsible for transporting about 90% of global trade and 2.2% of the world’s annual man-made CO2 emissions.

Gulf of Guinea Piracy Continues to Threaten Seafarers – Industry Wants Action Now

London: Friday, 7 June 2019. Members of the shipping community, Flag States and Agencies from Gulf of Guinea gathered at the Headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for a day-long symposium on Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea. The event, co-sponsored by BIMCO, IMCA, ICS, ITF and OCIMF, featured speakers from regional maritime agencies as well as shipping officials, academics and military staff. The shipping industry, along with seafarer groups, organized the event to highlight the continuing danger to seafarers operating in the Gulf of Guinea.

New industry guidance on pilot transfer arrangements published

In an effort to improve the safety of pilots and seafarers, The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Maritime Pilots’ Association (IMPA), in collaboration with a number of industry organisations including BIMCO, have released the third edition of the Shipping Industry Guidance on Pilot Transfer Arrangements.
