Liquefaction and Dynamic Separation

Liquefaction is the well-known phenomenon that affects the carriage of Group A cargoes in the IMSBC Code. Dynamic separation is a new phenomenon recently incorporated in the IMSBC Code under the Bauxite cargo entry. This section provides information on these two phenemona which are moisture-related instabilities that affect the ship’s stability and how the master and crew can recognise the signs of these two two phenemona to enable them to act swiftly to avert disasters of capsizing and loss of crew.

Solid bulk cargo database

A valuable supplement to the IMSBC Code, containing cargo information and carriage requirements of solid bulk cargoes commonly transported. Amendment (Amdt) 06-21 (2022 edition) is the current Code in force effective 1 December 2023. Amdt 07-23 is in voluntary application effective 1 January 2024 and will enter into mandatory force on 1 January 2025.

Amendments to the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code) and International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution From Ships, 1973 as modified by the Protocol of 1978 (MARPOL) Annex II - Carriage of noxious liquid substances in bulk, will impact all stakeholders in the chemical and Vegetable oils trade. As the amendments enter into force on 1 January 2021, It is recommended that ships replace existing certificates as soon as possible, to make sure the vessels are operational come 1 January.
