Update on work to develop ETS Allowances Clause for SHIPMAN

The subcommittee tasked with the revision of BIMCO’s suite of third party management contracts continues its work to develop a standard Emission Trading Scheme Allowances (ETSA) Clause for use with the popular ship management agreement SHIPMAN. The aim is to present a draft standalone clause for possible adoption by BIMCO’s Documentary Committee when it meets next in Copenhagen on 11 October.

Black Sea dry bulk exports up 13% y/y as Russian wheat exports rise

Between January and October, dry bulk exports out of the Black Sea increased by 13% y/y, driven by Russian wheat exports. After two strong consecutive wheat harvests in Russia, the country’s exports are now on track to reach a new record in 2023. However, Black Sea export volumes are 20% lower than in 2021 due to the loss of Ukrainian cargoes following Russia’s invasion of the country.

BIMCO's EEXI/CII and ETS Clauses imminent

In a little over a year from now, new legislation from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will come into force. It aims to reduce CO 2 emissions and will change the way ships are operated. From 1 January 2023, owners and charterers will therefore have to cooperate to comply with the new regulation.

IMO meeting to focus on containers lost at sea

Over the course of three months late last year and early this year, almost 3,500 containers were lost in a number of incidents in the Western Pacific. This is far above the numbers usually registered for the same period and has raised concern regarding the causes of these incidents.
