BIMCO has launched the "25 by 25 pledge", a commitment by some of the world’s biggest shippers in the bulk sector to target moving 25% of their annual seaborne trade volume for at least one commodity using electronic bills of lading by 2025. The pledge is part of an ongoing effort to accelerate trade digitalisation and streamline the supply chain process in the bulk sector.

In June 2022, the newly formed FIT Alliance launched a survey among its membership to help identify what was hindering the adoption of electronic bills of lading (eBLs).
The Blank Back Form of Liner Bill of Lading is a bill of lading with no pre-printed terms and conditions on its backside. Instead, the relationship between the carrier and the shipper should be governed by the carrier’s standard conditions of carriage. If the carrier does not have any standard conditions of carriage, then this bill of lading will be subject to the terms and conditions of the CONLINEBILL bill of lading which was in force on the date when the Blank Back Form of Liner Bill of Lading was issued.
