USCG Ballast Water Management information

The USCG Ballast Water Management regulations entered into force in June 2012 and is now close to being fully implemented so any ship calling US ports have to be in compliance with the relevant regulations and requirements. It should also be noted that a number of US individual States have implemented their own requirements beyond the USCG regulations so liaison with a local agent is recommended.

First ever standard contract for autonomous ship operation underway

BIMCO is adapting the currently used SHIPMAN 2009 agreement for use with autonomous ships, but the lack of actual autonomous ships currently in operation will mean ongoing adjustments as the industry forges ahead with its pioneering projects. Publication of the first version is expected in 2021.

BIMCO and CIRM software log is now ISO standard 24060

BIMCO and CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime) have taken the concept of the onboard software log to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to automate and modernise it. As a result, the ISO has published a new standard on a ship software logging system to be used for operational technology onboard ships.
