Guidelines to address underwater radiated noise to take effect from 1 October 2023

The IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 80), following a comprehensive revision of the Guidelines by the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC) earlier this year, approved the Revised guidelines for the reduction of underwater radiated noise from shipping to address adverse impacts on marine life.
The Guidelines will be in effect from 1 October 2023.
The revised guidelines are intended to assist relevant stakeholders in establishing mechanisms through which noise reduction efforts can be achieved.
