BIMCO and the World Shipping Council (WCS) have launched a proposal for a mandatory and standardized reporting system to be developed, to address the safety and environmental risks associated with containers lost at sea.

This is despite the fact that issuance of electronic bills of lading (eBLs) has been possible for more than 20 years on safe and well-established platforms approved by the International Group of P&I Clubs. It is also despite the fact that eBLs are safer, faster, and greener when compared to their paper bills of lading ancestor.
Many container operators use charter party trade limits as a sanctions management tool when operating liner services between non-sanctioned countries. To provide an alternative contractual solution and to proactively address the current trend to impose sanctions on the shipping industry, BIMCO is currently developing a sanctions clause specifically designed for time chartering container ships.
Washington D.C./Geneva, 7 November 2023 – Accidental collisions between ships and whales are a global concern, and can occur wherever there is an overlap between whale activity and vessel traffic. To help seafarers plan their voyages to minimize the risk of collisions, the World Shipping Council (WSC) is today launching the WSC Whale Chart. This navigational aid is the first global mapping of all mandatory and voluntary governmental measures to reduce harm to whales from ships. The WSC Whale Chart is available for free to all interested parties and will be regularly updated.
