BIMCO provides an update on the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) and what the International Labour Organization ( ILO) has undertaken in view of the COVID 19 pandemic.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has postponed all meetings since March 2020. BIMCO is adapting to the new schedule, and this article provides an overview of the IMO-related work that BIMCO members need to know about, despite the pandemic.
The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) is an international labour convention adopted under the scope of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in February 2006 and contains a set of global standards bringing nearly all the existing maritime labour instruments together in a single reformatted Convention. BIMCO provides all the information you need to know about the MLC, 2006 in the form of a quick summary with the relevant links provided. The latest FAQ issued by the ILO in November 2020 is also included.
At the meeting of BIMCO's Maritime Safety & Security Committee in March 2023, one of our longest-serving members retired from the committee.
Industry organisations, supported by government and military organisations, have worked together to produce a new publication that will help mariners detect, deter and delay external threats to their safety. Best Management Practices to Enhance Maritime Security for Vessels & Mariners Operating Off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea (BMP WA) consolidates and enhances existing guidance for specific threats in this region.
