New bunker alert service available for BIMCO members

21 April 2020

Bunker fuel is a key element in the running of ships, and problems related to bunkers can massively impact daily operations. Information about bunker quality issues is of high value and BIMCO has therefore entered into a new cooperation with Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) who publishes regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples.

BIMCO has published a climate change glossary to clarify and harmonise definitions and terminology to ensure that the discussions around climate change and potential solutions for the shipping industry are based on a mutual understanding of what the commonly used terms mean.

Shipping industry urges Governments to take forward USD 5 billion proposal to accelerate the decarbonisation of maritime transport

16 November 2020

Copenhagen/London/Washington, November 13, 2020 – As governments come together at the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to consider important next steps to decarbonise maritime transport, the global shipping industry urgently calls on them to take forward its proposal for an industry-financed, USD 5 billion research and development programme, to catalyse the transformation of the industry from dependence on fossil fuels to operating with zero-carbon energy sources.

15+15 webinar: Getting what you pay for – a novel concept in bunkering?

06 May 2024

Early in 2024 Adrian Tolson published a White Paper arguing for the global adoption of calibrated mass flow meters (MFMs) in the bunkering industry. He argued that this progress will bring much-needed transparency to bunkering by generating accurate, real-time data for all stakeholders along the marine fuel supply chain. Describing the problems for the industry caused by inaccurate quantity measurement he sets out a number of remedial actions. The paper recognizes the success of Singapore’s MFM based bunker licensing system and proposes this as a template for regulators in other regions across the world. It calls on all supply chain participants to actively support MFM-based deliveries, promote transparency and encourage digitalization in the long-term interests of the bunker industry and to help further the decarbonization goals of the shipping industry. This 15+15 will explore these ideas and assess if there is a chance for real progress.
