Overview

BIMCO continues to receive enquiries about mill scale, in particular, on how this solid bulk cargo is classified and how it should be carried under the requirements of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes ( IMSBC) Code. 

This article explains what is mill scale, its properties and characteristics and how its carriage requirements under the IMSBC Code have changed over the years and informs members of the present mandatory carriage requirements for this cargo under the IMSBC Code.
