Petroleum wax

Trade name/synonym name

As "Petroleum wax" is a trade name, please obtain exact specification at loading port. In some cases, petroleum wax will be categorized as MARPOL Annex I cargo - in other cases categorized as MARPOL Annnex II cargo

The proper shipping name for Petroleum wax, Annex II shall be: "Waxes" (IBC Code chapter 17) and the information in this particular list is based on the entry for "Waxes" from IBC Code chapter 17.

However, from December 2017 new entries for various categories of waxes have been added to MEPC.2/Circ., List 1. These entries will be included in the next edition of IBC Code chapter 17, expected to enter into force 1 January 2021. But as the new entries are contained in MEPC.2/Circ. as valid for "all countries", it is possible to use the new classification before 2021. If the new entry for petroleum wax from MEPC.2/Circ. is used, then the proper shipping name is "Hydrocarbon wax" and this cargo shall be handled according to pollution category X and the cargo will also be denoted as having a safety hazard and IBC special requirement 15.12 (Toxic products) shall be adhered to. In this case "Hydrocarbon wax " shall be added to the vessel's Certificate of Fitness
