An updated Report on the European list of ship recycling facilities, commissioned by BIMCO, shows progress in increasing the number of active yards on the list, but the rules still don’t reflect commercial realities and lags behind on capacity to scrap large commercial ships.

A report commissioned by BIMCO shows that while the EU list of approved ship recycling facilities continues to grow, new additions have not added significant capacity to meet the demands of the global shipping industry. Therefore, BIMCO believes focus must shift towards adding facilities outside of the EU. The report also shows that the EU audit system works as intended for non-EU recycling facilities.

Mexico alert – smuggling of illegal narcotics – risk of ship detention and crew arrest

The International Group of P&I Clubs, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), BIMCO and InterManager (the “international industry organisations”) draw Members’ attention to the series of recent ship detentions and crew arrests in Mexico and, in the case of the UBC Savannah, the lengthy and continuing detention in custody of the ship’s Master without any formal charges against him, following the discovery of illegal narcotics on board.

Ship Sales Further Trading Clause 2023

The intention and purpose of the BIMCO Ship Sales Further Trading Clause 2023 (the “Clause”) is for the Buyers and Sellers of a Vessel to agree that the Vessel will continue to trade. This provides the Sellers with a reasonable level of protection and reduces any risk that they will be held liable for the actions of the Buyers once proprietary interest in the Vessel has passed onto the Buyers in instances where the Buyers dispose of the Vessel in contravention of any rules and regulations concerning the demolition or dismantling of Vessels.
