Topical contracts and clauses to be reviewed by Documentary Committee next week

When BIMCO’s Documentary Committee (DC) chaired by Nick Fell, Executive Vice President, Corporate Services and General Counsel at BW Group, meets on 20 April at BIMCO House in Copenhagen, it will be considering two new freestanding clauses for adoption, one contract for approval and a number of ongoing projects for review.

BIMCO adopts SHIPMAN 2024

The updated version of SHIPMAN, BIMCO’s widely used ship management agreement, was adopted by the Documentary Committee at its meeting on 22 March in Hamburg after a two-year review process involving shipowners, managers, P&I Clubs, insurance and legal experts.

IOPC Funds address risks of uninsured and unsafe ships

The governing bodies of the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds met from 29 April to 1 May 2024 in London to consider various ongoing issues relating to the Funds’ work, including compensation and treaty matters. BIMCO has observer status at the Funds which provide compensation for oil pollution damage resulting from oil spills from tankers and therefore play a key role in the international liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage.

Paul is Global Head of Shipping at HFW managing 200 specialist shipping lawyers across a worldwide network of 20 offices. Experience gained working for an International Group P&I club specialising in offshore vessels, enables Paul to combine practical understanding with the legal role. Paul is identified in the Legal Directories as one of the leading individuals in his fields and in 2019 was elected by Lloyd's List as one of the top 10 maritime lawyers and one of the 100 most influential people in the maritime industry. Paul has also contributed to the two most recent editions of “The Law Of Tug and Tow and Offshore Contracts” by Simon Rainey Q.C. – “... Paul Dean of HFW, one of the leading and busiest practitioners in the field of offshore contracts and a veritable guru on the topic of the BIMCO forms, particularly "Supplytime", who as before very kindly gave me the benefit of his great experience and practical insights and with whom once again I have had the great good fortune to work on a host of tricky problems on the various BIMCO forms ".

The BIMCO Liquid Cargo database is intended for use by for shore-side staff and to some extent for newcomers to the tanker trade and should only be used as a reference tool providing brief information regarding the more than 330 of the commonly transported liquid cargoes including N-Butyl Alcohol .

COSCO chair receives BIMCO President’s award

Captain Xu Lirong, Chairman of COSCO Shipping, received the President’s Award at the BIMCO Conference in Shanghai for his excellent life-long service to the shipping industry. China Merchants Energy Shipping received the award for Best Shipping Company of Greater China Area 2019.
