Documentary Committee approves new SUPPLYTIME

The spring meeting of the Documentary Committee, chaired by Francis Sarre, was held in Rome on 6 June. The sixty-strong committee discussed an extensive and diverse range of documentary projects and approved for publication three new contracts and one clause.

Chris joined HFW in 2008 and, after training for a period in Hong Kong, qualified into HFW’s London Shipping Litigation team in 2010, advising on both “wet” and “dry” disputes. His primary focus is on issues arising from marine casualties including collisions, fires and groundings. In recent years, Chris has been heavily involved in a number of high profile containership casualties arising from carriage of declared and undeclared dangerous goods. In doing so, he has acted for Owners and also for Charterers advising on all aspects of the casualty response including issues including of limitation of liability, jurisdiction, salvage and general average as well as the underlying liabilities, both in tort and related contracts of carriage/VSA/slot charter arrangements, including unseaworthiness and unsafe port claims. In 2016 Chris increased his “dry” experience by completing a secondment to the legal department of a major German power company based in the UK, advising the freight trading and chartering operations desks. During that period he advised on a range of issues from the initial chartering process, through to speed and performance claims, bill of lading disputes, sales contracts, letters of indemnity, and off-spec cargo claims. Christopher is qualified in England and Wales.

Cross industry group sets new standard with revised bunker contract

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee approved a new set of standard bunker terms, developed by a cross-industry group, in New York on 2 May. The BIMCO Bunker Terms 2018 improve on the previous edition with a maximum limit of the parties’ liabilities – a key change that will lead to wider adoption of the contract.

Dorte joined BIMCO in 2021 as manager in Support & Advice and is responsible for advising and guiding members on contractual issues and disputes. Dorte started her career as a shipping trainee in 1995 with a Danish shipowner where she gained experience in operations. For eight years, Dorte worked in chartering and operations for bulk and dry cargo with ship owners and operators in London, Asia and Vancouver before returning to Copenhagen. Dorte has also worked for a large Danish energy company where she was involved with procurement of biomass (wood pellets) from overseas markets. In 2000, Dorte qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in London.

Natalie is an Australian-qualified solicitor and currently works as a Project Manager in the Contracts & Clauses team at BIMCO. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Finance/Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia) and LL.M from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). In Australia, she worked as a lawyer specialising in contracts, corporate and commercial law and civil litigation for 5 years. After completing the LL.M, she was employed as a solicitor/lawyer in the Shipping/Offshore/Transportation department at the Danish law firm Gorrissen Federspiel for 3 years. Before joining BIMCO, she worked as in-house Senior Legal Counsel at NTG Nordic Transport Group A/S specialising in contracts and dispute resolution within the transport, shipping and logistics industry.
