BIMCO COVID 19 weekly report

The BIMCO Maritime Information department informs members on a weekly basis, updates about the COVID-19 in relation to implementation measures imposed by governments for sea transport including for crew change as well as from the United Nation bodies like the International Maritime Organization (IMO), World Health Organization (WHO) and International Labour Organization (ILO). BIMCO has warned against situations where fake “brokers” will attempt to trick owners into fixtures where there is no cargo available. The con also involves a request for advance funds to be remitted to an account allegedly belonging to the “agents” at the loading port.

Mexico alert – smuggling of illegal narcotics – risk of ship detention and crew arrest

The International Group of P&I Clubs, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), BIMCO and InterManager (the “international industry organisations”) draw Members’ attention to the series of recent ship detentions and crew arrests in Mexico and, in the case of the UBC Savannah, the lengthy and continuing detention in custody of the ship’s Master without any formal charges against him, following the discovery of illegal narcotics on board.
