BIMCO ice reporting season 2022-2023 commences (members only)

Published: 09 December 2022

The northern hemisphere winter season 2022 has begun, so BIMCO has also begun its weekly ice reporting.  The ice reports cover areas including the Baltic Sea and Canadian regions.

The BIMCO ice reporting season for 2022/2023 covering the Baltic and Canadian regions commences this week. We will also report on Greenland, Japanese ports and the Northern Chinese ports (once available).

Members can also use the BIMCO ice information available online covering information ranging from basic guidance in understanding ice navigation, the Egg Code and the Polar Code to guidance on navigating the various ice regions in the world.

In addition, BIMCO, together with Witherby Publishing, has released the "Ice Navigation and Seamanship Handbook”. This is a comprehensive publication that can assist all users, including a novice reader who wishes to establish a good foundation in understanding the various types of ice that exist, the different ice regions and navigational challenges experienced by ships. For experienced ice navigators it also includes a chapter dedicated to the applicable international, regional and local regulations and guidance that is necessary in order to ensure due compliance when operating in ice conditions.
