Bentonite

Description
Collodial clay - a form of light yellowish brown (fawn) clay, containing significant amounts of clay mineral montmorillonite. Very hygroscopic in nature (ie, tendency to absorb water). There are two types: (1) sodium bentonite characterised by high swelling capacity in water due to its hygroscopic nature) and (2) calicum bentonite characterised by insignificant swelling capacity. Used as a lubricant mud for oil well drilling as well as for various industrial purposes. It is sometimes processed for carriage by extrusion into pencil-like shapes; where subsequent handling breaks up the 'pencils' into varying lengths.
