Marine electronics industry seeking customer input to new Code of Practice

Published: 22 August 2023

Comité International Radio Maritime (CIRM), the non-profit international association of marine electronics companies, is developing a Code of Practice for service companies engaged in the installation, repair and maintenance of shipboard marine electronic equipment.

The Code of Practice for Service Providers will set out what customers can expect from service companies, and is intended to provide assurance that the service provided will be a consistent standard of quality, conducted in accordance with the industry’s best practice. It will cover the work that Service Providers undertake on shipboard electronic equipment when conducting statutory Class surveys, preventative maintenance activities, software maintenance, installation and commissioning, fault finding and problem solving, and so on.

The Code of Practice is being developed by some of the biggest and most trusted companies in the ship servicing industry. It will ultimately be published and maintained by CIRM, and any service company will be able to adopt it - whether they are members of CIRM or not.

Your input is invited

CIRM is in the process of developing the next draft version of the Code of Practice for Service Providers.

Because the Code of Practice for Service Providers is intended to enable adopting service companies to provide assurance of quality to their customers, it is critical that those customers (i.e., shipping companies) are bought into the concept of the Code of Practice.

CIRM is therefore seeking the views of BIMCO’s shipping company members on the concept and contents of the Code of Practice for Service Companies.

A summary of the Code of Practice can be found on the CIRM websiteSummary of concept

You may provide your anonymous input using a 5-minute survey available here: https://www.surveylegend.com/s/5561

The survey will be open until 15th September 2023.

CIRM will be highly appreciative of any feedback received from BIMCO members.
