BIMCO Ice Reporting for season 2023/2024 ends

Published: 03 May 2024

Our ice reporting for the Baltic and Canadian regions as well as Northern Chinese ports, Japanese ports and Greenland is now closed for this season.

For the Baltic region, there are still some Finnish and Swedish reports coming in. See Baltic Sea Ice Services

There are also still areas in Canada such as the Eastern Waters of Newfoundland and Labrador Coast and the East Coast waters experiencing ice. We recommend you to use the Canadian Ice Service directly.

If you are a BIMCO member and have a specific ice request, you can also contact our team in the Maritime Information department for assistance.

Our online BIMCO Ice Information section (for members only) covers not only the above ice reports but also other information ranging from basic guidance in understanding ice navigation, the Egg Code, the Polar Code to guidance on navigating the various ice regions in the world.

In addition, BIMCO, together with Witherby Publishing, has published the “Ice Navigation and Seamanship Handbook”. This is a comprehensive publication that can assist all users, including a novice reader who wishes to establish a good foundation in understanding the various types of ice that exist, the different ice regions and navigational challenges experienced by ships. For the experienced ice navigator, there is also a chapter dedicated to the applicable international, regional and local regulations and guidance necessary to ensure compliance when operating in ice conditions.
