Performance measurement has become a central management discipline in modern shipping. Owners, operators, and managers are increasingly expected to demonstrate transparency, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across technical, operational, financial, and safety-related functions.
This BIMCO 180 seminar provides a structured introduction to performance indicators (PIs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) in the context of ship management. The optional introduction to BIMCO Ship PI serves as an inspirational example of how industry benchmarking and contextualisation can tie into an internal performance dialogue.
Across two interactive online sessions, participants will explore both the strategic foundations of performance measurement and the practical realities of designing, implementing, and managing KPIs within a ship management organisation. The course is relevant regardless of whether participants currently use any formal benchmarking tool or KPI framework.

Course format
BIMCO 180 seminars comprise two 90-minute live online sessions delivered by experienced BIMCO trainers.
The format combines presentations, practical examples, discussion, and interactive exercises to enable participants to translate theory into practice. The optional in-between session on BIMCO Ship PI will be delivered as a compact 15-minute module.
Participants will receive electronic course materials after the seminar.
Why attend this BIMCO 180 seminar?
Effective performance measurement is not about collecting more data – it is about using the correct data in the right way. This seminar helps participants move beyond isolated KPIs towards a structured, strategy-driven approach to performance management. By combining established management principles with practical, shipping-specific examples – and an optional illustration of industry benchmarking through BIMCO Ship PI – the course provides participants with tools they can immediately adapt to their own organisational context.
