The shipping sector is highly energy-dependent, so in the context of IMO GHG emission reduction, transition to alternative fuels with projected technical route to zero or net zero GHG emission is a fundamental pathway. But during the transition, Onboard Carbon Capture (OCC) could contribute before establishment of a mature alternative fuel supply chain.

  • What is the OCC and what is the OCCS?
  • How does the OCCS work and contribute?
  • What are the challenges nowadays?

This 30-minute webinar begins at 12:00 UTC (See your time zone here)

Speaker:

Xiangqian Fang, Senior Engineer, Shanghai Rules & Research Institute, China Classification Society (CCS)

Xiangqian Fang has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, followed by 15-years R&D experience in a shipyard under CSSC before joining CCS where he now works.

His research now centers on marine green technologies and pollution prevention such as energy-saving, onboard carbon capture technologies, marine alternative fuels, oil and noxious liquid substances pollution prevention with respective CCS rules or guidelines development.

With extensive R&D experience, he possesses a deep understanding of marine green technologies and related IMO regulations.

He is a member of the Chinese delegation to the IMO sub-committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers and ISWG - AF, and is involved in development of IMO guidelines for alternative fuels.
