BIMCO’s work to develop a new Energy Saving Device Retrofitting Addendum is making good progress. The project aims to provide the industry with a balanced contractual framework for retrofit initiatives designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance overall vessel performance.
The upcoming addendum will include a cost–benefit sharing mechanism, encouraging both owners and charterers to invest in energy saving retrofit projects by clarifying how risks, costs, and performance outcomes are allocated.
With the drafting well underway, the project is now approaching the consultation phase. BIMCO will soon invite stakeholders with relevant experience or a particular interest in retrofit technologies, performance assessment, or energy efficiency measures to join the sounding board. Participation will give industry specialists an opportunity to review and comment on the draft text before it is finalised.
