BIMCO Secretary General & CEO, David Loosley and WISTA President, Elpi Petraki met at Maritime Cyprus to sign an MOU that will see the two organisations working more closely to address some of the pressing issues affecting the maritime workforce - and in particular women.
BIMCO and WISTA (Women's International Shipping & Trading Association) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on some of the monumental challenges and opportunities related to the sustainability of the workforce throughout the shipping industry, from cradle to cradle. The MOU was signed at Maritime Cyprus by David Loosley and Elpi Petraki and recognises the increasing need to sustain the shipping workforce, through safe, fair, inclusive and attractive conditions as the industry transitions towards using new fuels and increased automation and digitalisation.
By signing the MOU, our two organisations will collaborate closely on initiatives that aim to ensure that seafaring and other maritime careers are safe, sustainable, and offer an aspirational career for decades ahead. Enabling the workforce, and to particularly see women thrive, in an evolving global industry is a top priority.
The partnership MOU will focus on addressing the following key areas:
- Research and Development: Collaboration on research initiatives, studies, and projects relevant to shipping.
- Information Sharing: Sharing relevant information, publications, and data that may be beneficial to the members of both organisations,
- Training and Education: Exploring opportunities for joint training programs, seminars, and educational initiatives to enhance the knowledge and skills of professionals throughout the shipping industry.
- Impact: Working together on efforts to address common issues and challenges faced by the industry.
