Dry Bulk Network

The goal of the BIMCO Dry Bulk Cargo Network is to bring together working professionals involved—directly or indirectly, with the shipment and handling of dry bulk cargoes and provide a dedicated forum to discuss regulatory, operational, and practical matters related to solid bulk transport.

The network supports members by creating a space for open knowledge‑sharing, peer‑to‑peer dialogue, and collective insight into both day‑to‑day dry bulk operations and future‑facing topics such as updates to the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code and emerging industry practices.

Input from the network helps inform BIMCO’s broader work, ensuring our efforts reflect the real‑world challenges and opportunities experienced by professionals dealing with dry bulk cargoes.

The people behind the success

As a member of the BIMCO Dry Bulk Cargo Network, you become part of BIMCO’s volunteer community.

Your hands‑on experience with cargo operations, regulatory interpretation, shipper interaction, testing procedures, safety considerations, and daily operational realities brings essential value to the Network.

BIMCO’s ability to remain the practical voice of shipping relies on the shared knowledge and active contributions of members like you. We believe strongly in the power of collaboration to drive safe, efficient, and informed dry bulk cargo operations across the industry.

The nuts and bolts

The network:

  • Meets online 2–3 times per year
  • Provides a forum for open dialogue, enabling members to discuss both practical and strategic topics related to dry bulk cargoes
  • Primarily focuses on understanding and applying the IMSBC Code and addressing related issues such as cargo hazards, moisture limits, sampling/testing, and documentation
  • Is open to all BIMCO members with staff involved in dry bulk cargo matters
  • May include external industry specialists (one or two presentations to support informed discussion) whenever beneficial
  • Operates under the Chatham House Rule
  • BIMCO organises the agendas in collaboration with the network participants and chairs each meeting.
