BIMCO Holiday Calendar supplement

Overview

India operates an extensive two-tier holiday schedule. Since laytime allowed would be artificially inflated if all these holidays were to be excepted from laytime, a system of declaring “Charter Party Holidays” has existed for many years. BIMCO provides the information in our supplement to the BIMCO Holiday Calendar.

The Charter Party Holidays are usually declared by the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry. As outlined by the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

“The Chamber as empowered by the resolution passed at its General Committee Meeting held on July 22, 1881 declares the Charter Party Holidays for the Mumbai Port.”

Due to the charter party holidays usually being declared after the cut date for the primary BIMCO Holiday Calendar - occasionally not before January, this information is provided in the BIMCO Holiday Calendar Supplement. Information on the Charter Party Holidays 2024 is provided to BIMCO by the following trusted and valuable member:

The Holiday Calendar supplement only contains information on the Indian holidays for use in laytime computing. For reliable information on holidays on national, regional and local level in other countries, non-members are required to purchase the full BIMCO Holiday Calendar or request BIMCO membership.
