Somentor 32 is the tradename for an ExxonMobil product. Substance with the trade name Somentor 32 is described as Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light. Hydrocarbons, C11-C14, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics, <2% aromatics and manufactured by ExxonMobil.

Main properties/hazards
The product with tradename Somentor 32 is a colourless clear liquid with a slight odour.

Somentor 32 Fluid is produced from petroleum-based raw materials which are treated with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to produce a low aromatic, low odour solvent.

Carriage and Stowage

Tank cleaning:

  • Moderate temperature water wash
  • Hot temperature water wash
  • Ambient temperature freshwater rinse

Due to the large molecules of this cargo, it can be difficult to remove cargo residues entrained in the coating, - from zinc coating in particular. Therefore, a wash with a cleaning chemical (detergent or hydrocarbon remover) may be necessary and this cargo is not recommended as prior cargo for sensitive cargoes.

Emergency Response

  • Fire: Use foam or water spray - not water jet
  • Spillage: Collect small spills with absorbent material. Larger spills: Try to collect and transfer to spill tank or wash away with water. When in port, - inform Port Authority
  • First aid: Remove victim to fresh air. Follow first aid instructions in MSDS. Consider obtaining advice from Radio Medical 

Hazards (Occupational safety etc): 

Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Somentor 32 is low in toxicity; however, it may cause lung damage if swallowed. May be irritating to the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. 

Precautions 

This cargo may react with strong oxidizing substances, such as for example nitric acid.

Use: Somentor 32 Fluid is particularly suited for use as a base stock fluid in aluminium foil and sheet rolling applications, where ultra-high purity is required.
