Entrance

The entrance to Nuevitas is a narrow and crooked channel between Pt. Sotavento and Pt. Practicos, about 7 miles long, but vessels may safely use it although good care has to be taken because of the narrowness and sharp turns at the entrance and the velocity of tidal currents. On account of above and as a security measure, entrance to or sailing from this port is only effected at slack water. Usually entrance or sailing from port is performed during daylight hours but incoming vessels, which have advised their ETA well in advance and draw 9.14 m (30') enter during night time at slack water, if all navigational signals and marks are in good condition. ...
