What are Customs Co-operation Agreements (CCAs)?

For the benefit of its members, BIMCO has made a series of agreements with 15 national customs authorities (Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States)- Customs Co-operation Agreements (CCAs)- as a means of mitigating delays and costs resulting from the discovery of drugs aboard a member vessel.

BIMCO – which was founded under the title of "The Baltic and White Sea Conference" in Copenhagen in 1905 was the first organisation to see the benefit in joining forces with other countries to secure better deals and standard agreements in shipping. As the organisation grew and became more international it was renamed -The Baltic and International Maritime Council –and at present day – simply BIMCO.
