To protect crew against exposure to dangerous substances used in fire-fighting systems, as well as to minimise the impact on the environment, the IMO’s Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment ( SSE) has finalised prohibition of perfluoro-octane sulfonic acid ( PFOS) from fire-fighting systems on board ships
This week’s meeting of the Implementation of IMO Instrument (III) Sub-Committee was in general business as usual because no controversial issues were raised. The bulk of the meeting papers consisted of the different Port State Control (PSC) regimes’ annual reports.
BIMCO attended the 5th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC 5) to further develop the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels.
The STCW Convention and Code are going to be comprehensively reviewed at the IMO. Read about this and other important happenings at HTW 9, which met in early February 2023 .
