Tom Adams

He is a shipping and energy specialist with expertise in dispute resolution and negotiating contracts relating to offshore construction, shipbuilding, and floating production. He advises offshore contractors, owners and charterers under their charters and services contracts for offshore oil & gas and wind projects. Tom has presented for IBC in relation to FPSO contracts covering design risk, variations, topside integration, and commissioning issues, and edited the leading textbook Offshore Construction: Law & Practice (Published by Informa law for Routledge). He has presented for BIMCO and Lloyds Maritime Academy on the SUPPLYTIME forms since 2012.

Survey on operations in Nigerian ports and terminals

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has launched the latest version of its Nigeria Impact Survey . The purpose of the survey is to assess corruption risks for users of Nigerian sea ports and terminals and better understand the evolving situation and the ethical behavioural changes that may have occurred as a result of the various MACN initiatives carried out since 2012 to improve the operating environment for the shipping industry.

He has broad experience with maritime liens, ship arrests, maritime attachment and garnishment remedies, transport and sale of goods contracts, cargo claims, shipping casualties, and marine pollution. For energy companies, Chris has experience with upstream and midstream commercial disputes and casualties, offshore and onshore, and with eminent domain condemnation cases for pipelines, including disputes arising from joint operating agreements, gas processing and gas measurement, mineral leases, and various conveyances of royalties and oil and gas interests. Chris has been a speaker for BIMCO and author for presentations and articles on topics including offshore drilling, coastwise trade laws, OSV charter parties, and many maritime law issues. Chris is admitted to practice in Texas, in the US District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, in the US Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Tenth Circuits, and in the US Supreme Court. Before practicing law, Chris sailed as a professional mariner.

Laytime Definitions for Charter Parties 2013

The Laytime Definitions for Charter Parties have been developed to provide practitioners with a set of meanings of commonly used words and phrases. The objective is to help reduce disputes about party intentions in a market where fixtures are often concluded on the basis of a recap message and listed amendments, without the exchange or return of draft contracts. These provisions have been developed for incorporation into charter parties. The latest edition of these definitions is the Laytime Definitions for Charter Parties 2013.
