Christian Baekmark Schiolborg

Christian Bækmark Schiolborg is Manager, Maritime Technology and Regulation at BIMCO. He is responsible for analysing regulatory developments, mainly on the issues of IMO 2020 sulphur cap, fuel safety and reduction of greenhouse gases from ships. Furthermore, he represents BIMCO at international organisations such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on aforementioned matters. Christian is educated as dual officer (deck officer and marine engineer) and has sailed on container ships and offshore vessels. Before joining BIMCO, he worked 6 years with the Danish Maritime Authority. Here he began as ship surveyor, became port state control officer and ended as special adviser in technical regulation in the department for maritime regulations and legal affairs, where he represented Denmark in IMO on different technical issues and was Head of the Danish delegation in the Sub-committee on Ship Systems and Equipment. 

Bjørn Kay

Bjørn has been employed by Marstal Maritime Academy ( since 1995 as a simulator instructor and course instructor. Now he is the head of the maritime simulation department. Together with their partner, “Greenland Maritime Center (, which is responsible for the maritime education in Greenland, he conducts courses for them in Denmark working closely together. Bjørn is also master mariner, ice instructor, ice advisor, and member of the International Ice Charting Group Task Team 8.

Flemming Dahl Jensen

Flemming is Senior Security Advisor at Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S. He joined NORDEN in 2010 as a Marine Superintendent. Before joining the company, he worked for A. P. Møller- Mærsk for 23 years in various roles, including as an officer and Master, and has held various managerial positions ashore. In addition, Jensen is Chairman of the ECSA Maritime Security Working Group, Vice chairperson at BIMCO’s Safety and Security Committee, is a member of the Danish Shipowners’ Association’s Security Working Group, Informal CSO Forum (Denmark) and Informal Shipowners Security Forum in the United Kingdom.

Aron Soerensen

Aron Soerensen is Head of Maritime Technology & Regulation at BIMCO. He represents BIMCO on marine, operational and related matters at international organisations such as International Maritime Organization, ISO, International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). His tasks include negotiating, monitoring and disseminating relevant conventions and developing international standards, regional/national requirements, and assessing their impact on BIMCO members. He was BIMCO’s project leader on the 2015 BIMCO/ICS Manpower Study, and has worked on cyber security development and software maintenance standards. Following a career at sea as a deck officer, Aron taught apprentice deck officers at nautical institutes in Denmark and subsequently joined the Danish Maritime Authority, working with safety of navigation in Danish waters.

Peter Sand

Peter Sand is Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO. He has worked for Statistics Denmark, compiling public accounts and doing international statistical work in relation to the European Union and United Nations. He then joined D/S NORDEN and during the rise and fall of the dry bulk markets, Peter gained experience in the fields of executive assistance, caretaking of investors and the art of transforming financial data and shipping statistics into analyses, presentations and reports. Later on he worked with CSR with a focus on sustainable shipping. Peter left D/S NORDEN as Senior Analyst and member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Board and joined BIMCO in 2009. He holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Copenhagen.
