Caution required when using nautical charts of Arctic waters

Due to the significant limitations of Arctic charting, all mariners in Arctic waters are required to plan any prospective voyages well in advance to understand their environment, and to exercise extreme caution when on the water, in order to minimise the associated high levels of risk. Caution is equally essential when navigating with Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC), as these official digital charts are based on the same limited or insufficient data as the official paper or electronic equivalent charts.

IOPC Funds meeting October 2018

BIMCO was represented at the recent meeting which coincided with the fortieth anniversary of the Funds. Agenda issues included the importance of maintaining legislation in line with treaty law provisions, difficulties occasionally encountered with non-International Group insurers, the Funds’ current compensation cases and a report on developments with the HNS Convention.

MEPC reaffirms that early movers of ballast water systems are not penalised

MEPC 71 progressed in ensuring smoother implementation of the ballast water convention. One of the achievements was reaffirming the agreement regarding the provisions for non-penalisation of early movers that have installed ballast water management systems according to G8 guidelines.
