BIMCO Shipping KPIs is a valuable system for all shipping companies irrespectively of size. For larger owners and managers with offices in many locations, BIMCO Shipping KPI offers different tools to make data collection more tangible.
Last month’s newsletter explained how to apply business unit, narrowing the number of available ships to data owners for the specific business units. Company roles are features that allow the administrators to limit the data points available – i.e. narrowing in a second dimension.
Company roles are particularly beneficial if more than one department of the company are contributing and applying data – e.g. accounting, technical and HSEQ departments.
To create and amend company roles, log in with the administrator account, jump to the “My Company” section and find the “Company Roles” subsection.
BIMCO Shipping KPIs come with a number of predefined roles. Beside “Default” and “Read-only”, a role for the technical and navigational departments are predefined.
The permissions associated with each role – such as the permission to add or delete ships from the account – can be adjusted. Company roles are covering aspects related to reporting – i.e. which PI, KPI and SPIs are open to the respective role.
Reporting permissions can be set to either “No access”, “View” or “Edit” at the administrator’s discretion. This allows all stakeholders in the company to access and take full advantage of the system without obstructing reporting procedures.
To adjust the permissions, simply find the relevant role in the drop-down menu and scroll down until the permissions are on screen.
Please notice that reporting permissions can be adjust at all levels irrespectively of the superior or subordinate level. This feature allows the administrator to tailor company roles to every position with an interest in the BIMCO Shipping KPI.
To apply the new settings, make sure to “save” next to the role drop-down menu. If you are adjusting a pre-defined role, you are able to save as a new copy, leaving the original predefined role intact.

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
