Shipping KPI monthly news - March 2020

Overview

New version of Shipping-KPI coming up!

While the World is slowly locking down due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, development of the upcoming new version of the BIMCO Shipping KPI is continuing. With some delay to expected due to COVID-19, 2020 will see the release of the BIMCO Shipping KPI version v.4 which will include:

  • Changeover from rating to ranking
  • Significant improvement to the user interface

KPI Rankings concept that will replace Ratings, is a new benchmarking method where performance is regarded as relative to who I am compared with. As part of this concept, custom KPI targets will be also introduced where Shipping Performance Indexes(SPIs) will be eliminated from the KPI standard. The change to ranking can be compared to a racetrack: individual times are less significant, since there will only be one winner. SKPI users will have their ranking returned as being either rank 1, rank 2, rank 3 or so forth. The target can be adjusted depending on the company’s ambitions. E.g. the target can be set to top 20% or top 10%.

The new interface will provide a more simplified structure, which will help users apply and interpret their data correctly.

More information about the conceptual changes will be provided to you on a later stage.

VPS Bunker Alerts

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.

The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
