The BIMCO Shipping KPI is made to provide the best tools available for comparison and benchmarking on performance. This data comes from our contributing users. The more data is applied to the system, the higher the overall value is to all users.
As mentioned in previous newsletters there are several ways for users to apply data:
Manual data entry using the online wizards are cumbersome, if the user operates more than a few ships. However, this option is suitable to create a draft for future submissions by spreadsheet.
Spreadsheet is likely the most common method applied by our users. It comes without any programming and all the figures are applied in the same document. But users should be paying attention to the following: Cell format should be aligned with the document – not the program.
If the above sounds like nonsense to you, then please have a look at the following date and number: 11/10/12 and 1.859. The way we see and read these figures depends on the format we are used to. Dates constitute of days (D), months (M) and years (Y). This allows for six different compositions, however the most commonly used are DMY, MDY and YMD. Come number formatting and separators, there is an even split on using comma (,) and point (.) as decimal and thousands separator.
In order to utilise spreadsheets to make data submissions, it is of paramount importance to use the same separators as the Shipping-KPI system:
These settings shall be applied prior to working with the spreadsheets. The following guide made for Office 365:
After setup, it is easy to apply the spreadsheet with the relevant data. If you experience any problems, do not hesitate to contact the support team: support@shipping-kpi.org.
Should you so wish, we recommend shipowners with more than a dozen ships to use API as a durable solution to apply secure and correct data submissions. If you wish to apply API solutions in your daily work with the Shipping-KPI please follow the steps described on this page.
