Shipping KPI monthly news - November 2019

Overview

Utilising your artificial intelligence

The headline is setting the bar, but please bear in mind artificial intelligence is not quite just to a transfer data from one system to another. That is nevertheless what the November newsletter will be all about: explaining the opportunities of the magnificent wonder called API!

What is an API

API is an abbreviation for application programming interface. In other words: it’s a shortcut between two systems with limited set of permissions.

Imagine you are at a restaurant. In the user-end the menu will provide you with a selected list of jobs you want to have performed by the kitchen. The waiter will take your order and deliver it to the kitchen and bring the result back to you. In this case the waiter is the API performing his task in a well-defined environment.

Fortunately, the Shipping-KPI API is not subject to tips.

Security of the API

The Shipping KPI API authorisation follows the same standard as that used by major software companies such as Google and Facebook – OAuth 2.0.

Prior to customising and utilising the API, users need to register and apply for vendor capabilities using this link. Just make sure to select the correct topic line as illustrated below:

Benefits of API entry

Obviously once the API is set up it will save users a considerable amount of time better spent otherwise. More-over it limits the possibilities of human error and makes data entries more consistent.

However, it’s important to keep in mind the API comes with some prerequisites:

  • The API needs to be set up prior to use. This can easily be done by qualified IT personnel
  • Data on the user-end needs to be accessible and structured in such a manner as it can be interpreted by the API.
