About Shipping KPI system – Documentation

In order to support Shipping KPI users, the Shipping KPI website contains a “Documentation” section on in KPI standard page, which provides many useful documents for people using the KPI system. The section contains Shipping KPI quick sheet and PI cheat sheet with the latest versions of KPI and PI standard. These documents will be updated when there are any changes in Shipping KPI standards, which is a good tool for users  when entering PI values, benchmarking and analyzing data.

The Shipping KPI Quick sheet v3.0 has a list of KPI’s title, value formula, minimum requirement and target that groups by SPI (Shipping Performance Index) – the highest level of Shipping KPI standard. The quick sheet is available at: https://www.shipping-kpi.org/public/downloads/documentation/Shipping_KPI_Quicksheet_V3.0.pdf

The Shipping PI Cheat sheet v3.0 lists PIs (Performance Indicators) standard in a table format including PI’s ID, name, unit, scope, measuring period and description. The cheat sheet is available at: https://www.shipping-kpi.org/public/downloads/documentation/cheatsheet3.0.pdf

Monthly random KPI – KPI025 : Passenger injury ratio

The KPI represents a ratio between the number of injured passengers reported during embarkation, disembarkation and time spent on board, relative to the passenger exposure hours in the reporting period. By defining the KPI as a ratio, benchmarking is feasible even between different ship sizes. Only ships certified to carry passengers should use this KPI. Note that supernumeraries (family members, riding crew, superintendents and stowaways) are not considered as passengers.

KPI value example

 PI045  Number of passengers injured  = 5
 PI061  Passenger exposure hours  = 100000
 KPI Value  Passenger injury ratio  = 5/(100000 * 10-6) = 50
