WHO declares coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency - BIMCO advises
Overview
Since 23 January 2020, BIMCO has been busy updating members about this serious coronavirus outbreak online and it has now been announced by WHO yesterday that it is officially a global health emergency. BIMCO advises members of how this outbreak can be monitored closely and issues information and guidance accordingly.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s meeting held yesterday, Coronavirus outbreak is now officially declared as a global health emergency.
Before the above declaration by WHO, the BIMCO Secretariat has already been busy working and collecting information to keep our members updated on this serious outbreak.
Most countries take precautionary measures such as pre-arrival temperature screening checks on passengers and crew members.
Members are therefore advised to go to the BIMCO Crew Support section, which is updated daily, for the latest information and the coronavirus' impact on shipping. Information includes the latest WHO international travel and advice and WHO's daily situation report.
Many countries have taken measures to combat this outbreak and for members to check on the implementation measures imposed by various countries that could impact sea transport, BIMCO has dedicated a section " Novel coronavirus - implementation measures for sea transport" to guide members accordingly.
Members are also welcome to approach the BIMCO maritime information department for any assistance required.
