Testing of solid bulk cargoes for corrosivity - IMO issues interim guidance

Overview

The International Maritime Organization (IMO)  issues interim guidance for modified testing of solid bulk cargoes for corrosivity.

Due to an international research programme conducted by the Global Industry Alliance under the auspices of the International Council on Mining and Metals, the current test used by the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC ) Code for testing of solid bulk cargoes' corrosivity to metal has been modified.

The IMO issues a circular providing interim guidance for the implementation of the test protocol approved by the IMO and advises all relevant stakeholders to take appropriate action when carrying out tests on solid bulk cargoes. Note that the set of modifications will enter into mandatory force when Amendment 06-21 to the IMSBC Code comes into effect on 1 January 2023.
