Calcium hypochlorite in containers – Timely guidance issued for safe carriage

Overview

Guidelines issued for shipment of calcium hypochlorite in containers available.

As you are aware, the carriage of calcium hypochlorite has always been in the news due to its hazardous properties and the number of incidents that had occurred with its carriage if proper precautions are not taken.

The Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS) and the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) have prepared a set of guidelines to ensure that calcium hypochlorite is carried safely under the requirements of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. The guidance includes additional precautions based on scientific analysis undertaken to mitigate the risks involved with such carriage.

Members shipping such cargoes are strongly recommended to take the CINS-IGP&I 's guidelines for the carriage of calcium hypochlorite in containers into consideration.
