Underwater noise pollution from ships is a growing environmental concern. The International Maritime Organization has acknowledged the concerns that a significant portion of the underwater noise generated may be related to commercial shipping.
BIMCO's Jeppe Skovbakke Juhl, Manager of Safety and Security, will present an overview of the progress and touch on topics such as:
- Brief overview of the subject
- Status of the recent updates of the IMO Guidelines on Reducing Underwater Noise from Commercial Shipping to Address Adverse Impacts on Marine Life
- Design, Technical, Operational and Maintenance Noise Reduction Approaches
- Relationship between the energy efficiency regulations (EEDI, EEXI and CII) and underwater radiated noise
- Incentive schemes to support the implementation and uptake of the revised Guidelines
- Next steps to further prevent and reduce underwater radiated noise.
