Security Advisory - Piracy Alert

Overview

MSCHOA  has received an unconfirmed report that a Dhow was pirated  in the vicinity of Eyl during the last 24 hours.

Whilst investigations are still ongoing, ships operating in the Somali Basin should remain vigilant and continue to apply BMP4 procedures.  Any actual or suspected piracy should be reported to UKMTO on +971 501 898 389.

There are reports that this Dhow has been commandeered by pirates and is being used as a mother ship. There is no independent verification of this.

The following Navigation Warning to warn shipping of a possible PAG however has been issued :

Reports of a possible pirate action group carrying out mothership operations within a 300nm radius of position 0758n 04953e at 241200 UTC Mar 17.
